I started this history blog to celebrate my late father, Herbert Bingham Mead. He served in the U.S. 1st Marine Division in China 1945-1946. His wish was for me to research and publish a book on those extraordinary days when he and his comrades were stationed in Tianjin and Beijing, China. Today we salute the service and bravery of those extraordinary men -and the people of China who endured and befriended them. Semper Fi!

Map of the Bohai Sea
This is a modern map of the Bohai Sea region that features many of the name places found in the articles and sources mentioned in the articles I’ve posted on this blog. When looking at the map it becomes clear why this region of China was so important strategically in the mid-1940s. Given Tianjin’s location near Beijing it is no small wonder that this was then as it is now one of the world’s busiest sea lanes.
